Integrating Incompatible Components for a New Aftermarket Motorcycle Product

Not every engineering project starts from scratch. Sometimes the challenge is making two well-designed products work together when they were never intended to.

For this project, the objective was to integrate a premium steering stabilizer with a motorcycle triple clamp that was originally designed for a different application. The two components were mechanically incompatible, preventing a direct installation.

The solution was a purpose-built adapter that precisely located the steering stabilizer while maintaining proper alignment, rigidity, and clearances throughout the steering range.

The project included:

  • Mechanical design and component integration

  • CAD modeling of the adapter

  • Packaging and clearance analysis

  • Prototype development and fitment validation

  • Design for additive manufacturing and production

The completed adapter created a new aftermarket upgrade option by combining proven components into a single, functional assembly without requiring modifications to either primary part.
